Rapid Heartbeat (Sinus Tachycardia, Paroxysmal Tachycardia)
SYMPTOMS. The only sign may be a fast, forceful heartbeat (greater than 100
beats per minute). It comes on gradually and then slackens off (SINUS
TACHYCARDIA). In some cases an extremely rapid heartbeat (180 or higher
beats per minute) may develop suddenly and last for hours or even days
(PAROXYSMAL TACHYCARDIA). It might disappear suddenly and then reappear.
There may be pallor, nausea, weakness or fainting with fast heartbeat.
CAUSES of sinus tachycardia may possibly include anemia, emotional stress,
excessive thyroid functioning (hyperthyroidism), exercise, and infection.
Paroxysmal Tachycardia may stem from tobacco, anxiety, fatigue or coffee.
TREATMENT. To restore normal heart rate, medication may be prescribed.
.Lying down with feet in the air may help
.Bending forward from the waist may also help.
